Tara Parker-Pope, one of the NY Times' Health bloggers, addresses one of the less commonly known non-veg*n ingredients: bugs. Or, to be precise:

Frank Bruni gives NYC vegan restaurant Candle 79 what must be one of the most begrudging good reviews I've ever read in the New York Times today. From the article's headline ("Not Missing the Meat (Mostly)" to its conclusion ("That regimen has its rigors, but it's not without its rewards") Bruni seems both surprised and surprisingly loathe to admit that the vegan food at Candle 79 is satisfying, tasty, hearty, even delectable.
Eccentric Vegan isn't too happy with how a NY Times writer (and author of a new guide to being a vegan in NYC) answers someone's question about how to eat out as vegan other than actually going to a veg restaurant. Eccentric Vegan comes up with a much better answer, which boils down to:

Very positive article about Vegan cookbook author Isa Chandra Moskowitz in yesterday's NY Times. Comes complete with three vegan recipes, for:
Devil's Food Cupcakes (yes, like the Hostess kind)
Spicy Peanut Stre
Butternut Squah Rice Paper Rolls
Sounds yummy, and paints a very positive, pleasant, welcoming picture of vegans.
Here's my question though: what do you think of the analogy drawn between becoming vegan and coming out of the closet? Certainly hadn't heard it before. If I were gay I'm not sure I would appreciate it, because comparative talk of having an "aha moment" and choosing veganism sends a really mixed message about nature vs. nurture and homosexuality.
Anyone else have thoughts on that?
