I was as disappointed as the next vegan when I learned that Morningstar Farms had discontinued their Meal Starters "Steak" Strips.
I mean if you're going to just de-veganize key products and remove other vegan favorites from your product offering altogether? Then how can I trust you again.
They ask that pithy question right here.
When I was a vegetarian, not a vegan, Boca was perhaps my favorite brand. Particularly their "chicken" patties, which were awesome little breaded "chicken" patties, perfect with a little avocado on some sourdough bread.
Here is their response to my earlier noted comment:
Hmmm, what are these Worthington products they speak of? Perhaps they are not carried in California? I do use the Chik'n and Steak Strips as noted. I just wish they made a vegan Chik Patty, that's the bottom line.
Ms. Camahort,Thank you for contacting us about the use of eggs in our Morningstar Farms® and Worthington® products. We appreciate the opportunity to explain our position regarding the source of egg ingredients used in our products.
Our goal is to ensure that consumers have a choice when considering our brands. We currently offer several Morningstar Farms® and Worthington® products that do not contain eggs and are considered vegan. Some of these products are recent additions formulated to reduce our dependence on traditionally sourced eggs. Our Morningstar Farms® vegan products include:
Meal Starters™ Chik'n Strips
Meal Starters™ Steak Strips
Grillers® Original Vegan Burger
Meal Starters™ Grillers® Recipe Crumbles™
Meal Starters™ Sausage-Style Recipe Crumbles™
Vegan Burger made with Organic SoyIn addition, we offer 11 Worthington® products that are made without eggs.
We are currently exploring the use of cage-free eggs in our products and we are also looking at making more of our Morningstar Farms products egg free. We recognize that this is a sensitive issue and we are committed to actively exploring how we can use fewer or no caged eggs. We appreciate the information you provided to us. Thank you, again, for your interest in our products.
Sincerely,
Monica Fuentes

Fast response though.
As a vegetarian I was a total Morningstar Farms groupie. Chik Patties? The best.
As a vegan? not so much. Lots of egg and dairy derivatives in lots of their products. I can definitely still use their meal starter chik'n and "steak" strips, but not the Chik Patties, not the "Bacon" and breakfast patties.
I found a site that provides a quick, easy way to give Morningstar Farms your feedback.
I chose, and I recommend that other also focus on, the potential economic benefit to re-working their recipes
to accommodate veg*ns of all kinds. I was a big customer. I can be one again. Help me help you, Morningstar Farms!
Here's what I wrote:
No response yet, but here's hoping! As a vegetarian since 1989 I have been an avid customer of Morningstar Farms. Your Chik Patties were among my favorite foods ever. I made the switch to vegan almost 6 months ago, and now find myself unable to partake of many of the foods I loved.
If you found a way to remove animal ingredients altogether from your products, you would have me back as a customer in a heartbeat.
Your vegetarian offerings were always tastier than anyone else's, and I'm sure you could make your vegan offerings superior too!
