So, for two nights in a row I had to wake up every couple of hours to put in the drops. That makes me wonder how new parents ever work a real job, because everything starts to seem a bit off when you have no consistent sleep.
I was starting t feel more human on Thursday...and starting to try to dig into email. But it was tough because of my sensitivity to light. I definitely couldn't sit at my desk because not only is it next to a window with lots of exposure in the morning, but my screen is a huge, beautiful iMac screen...that little light must shine.
So I grabbed my laptop and sat in the living room (next to my cat on her pillow throne) with the curtains drawn and the brightness dialed way down.
Even so, about 15-20 minutes at a time was all I was managing. call me unproductive.

So Wednesday was another day I spent totally out of commission. And spent every hour putting painful shit in my eye.
When I asked the doctor at appointment #2 if it was normal that the drops hurt, she said "Yes, you have a big open wound in your eye, so the nerves are exposed, and it's going to hurt." Awesome.
Still once the appointment was over, and the doctor could report improvement and light at the end of the tunnel, I did feel a little cheerier. We even stopped by my folks' house and had dinner with them. In a nice, dark restaurant.

Finally, finally I made it to the doctor about my eye. And she was a little shocked that:
a. the Chicago EMT did little more than shine a light in my eye and hand me a bottle of saline
b. that I had somehow decided to wait for five days before seeking treatment
She gave me antibiotic drops for a rather nasty infectious corneal ulcer and sent me off with this regimen:
-Every 20 minutes for the next 6 hours
-Every hour after that
-Including getting up every 1 to 2 hours all night long to do the drops
And another doctor appt. the next afternoon to make sure the thing was receding. I was too afraid to ask what would happen if it wasn't.
The drops, by the way, hurt. So, it was a real pleasant time regularly dosing myself with painful meds.
Didn't have much appetite, are you surprised?

Not only was I out of the loop putting on this little shindig last week, but I also managed to acquire a corneal ulcer while in Chicago. I've been out of commission for days, and even now I am typing with one eye closed looking at a screen with the brightness all the way down. I can only work fo short spurts of time before needing to rest. (And no, perhaps I shouldn't be working at all...but have you seen my Inbox?)
So, I'm just going to post quick catch-up posts to get me back on track after almost 10 days away from this blog.
