Who needs to have me on Twitter, huh? You can just follow me via this blog!
The problem with travel and lack of a variety of vegan options is that eventually you find yourself hungry and out of options and more inclined to say "screw it." I hasten to point out that i never say "screw it" enough to eat meat of any kind, but my vegan dedication isn't quite to that level yet. All of this to explain that while sitting in the speaker green room at SXSW, feeling quite hungry and seeing nothing but coffee and water and pastries, I did grab a piece of pound cake-like matter and eat it...knowing full well it was undoubtedly non-vegan. I needed a little sustinence before my panel...that's my excuse.
Moderated my panel at SXSW (Non-developers to Open Source Acolytes: Tell Me Why I Care.) It went really well, IMHO. And I saw some good reviews out there on the interwebs. Including one calling it the "best SXSW panel EVER!" I kid you not. Thank you Kimberly Blessing :) And thanks to my panelists: Annalee Newirz, Dawn Foster and Erica Rios.
From the panel I went straight to the airport, where I chowed down on an airport veggie burger. Made it home by dinner time, but felt compelled to take care of some work things, so made a rather haphazard dinner and watched some TV with the S.O. before going to bed early. Why early? Because I had to leave the house at 6AM for an 8AM flight to NYC.
March=too much travel.

I know that someehere in Austin there are vegetarian restaurants. Hell, it's a college town, and a recent study showed that college students are request veg*n menus at an unprecedented rate. (Unprecedented meaning that the percentage that want the meals far exceeds the percentage of veg*ns in our population.)
But 6th Street, the party address of Austin, and the convenient strip near the convention center, is not the place where these veggie restaurants can be found. I am in serious scrounge mode. As you'll see:
Breakfast:
Coffee

Diet Coke (alcohol and soda in one trip, ooooh, I'm bad!!!)
Greens with Vinaigrette
Nature's Valley Peanut Butter Granola Bar (no honey I checked.)
French Fries

Gardenburger on a Bun with Tomatoes and Mustard
More French Fries
Tomorrow night I'll be in NYC, and I'm going to go back to my new vegan
restaurant discovery, Candle 79, for a sumptuous vegan feast. Counting
the hours.
After less than 24 hours in Sin City I headed out to Austin yesterday for SXSW Interactive. Different day, same story: breakfast, no lunch, marginal dinner. I was a little more discipined, though...as good as the nachos and chips and queso floating around our BlogHer meetup looked, I didn't have even one bite.
Breakfast (Spa Canyon Cafe at the Venetian):
Steelcut Oatmeal with Brown Sugar
Fruit Bowl with Granola
Coffee
Snack:
Nuts
Crackers
Diet Coke
Dinner (Freddie's Place):
Chips & Salsa
French Fries
Protabella Sandwich on Whole Wheat Bun, with Avocado, Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Pickles
2 Coronas!
News alert: I drank 2 Coronos over the course of the evening and didn't
so much as turn a little bit red in the face. Alcohol allergy
conquered? Hope so...and not because I'm a closet wanna-be lush or
anything.
