I don't have a lot to say about this post from BlogHer about a new Florida law banning bestiality. Suffice to say this ain't stuff I want to think about too much or too often.
Rich, a child's rights advocate, said that those who abuse animals (sexually and otherwise) are likely to do the same to kids and the National Humane Society vehemently backs that up. Fact is, sexual abuse of animals often happens concurrently with sexual assaults on people. The NHS website cites numerous studies and statistics illustrating this disturbing connection, including this one:
"Of juveniles who engage in sex with animals, 96 percent also admit to sex offenses against humans and reported more offenses against humans than other sex offenders their same age and race."
--Fleming, William M., Jory, Brian and Burton, David L. (2002). Characteristics of Juvenile Offenders Admitting to Sexual Activity with Nonhuman Animals. Society and Animals
Hat Tip to Elaine V. for alerting me that the evil "art" exhibit at the San Francisco Art Institute, that entailed killing animals on video, has been permanently cancelled.
If you're interested in what level man's inhumanity to animal can rise to...and how they can even justify it as art, read this. I hate to point you to something so appalling, but it's happening in my home Bay Area, so I feel like I need to raise my voice and protest.
Just wanted to let you know that your current "art" exhibit, which is actually a snuff film, has guaranteed I will NEVER set foot in your facility. I'm a member of the San Jose Museum and frequent other museums regularly, but this lack of judgement...or probably this desire to stir up enough controversy to get attention...is truly beyond my comprehension.
I will defend the Mapplethorpes and the Serranos and the human body exhibits consisting of volunteers...but this is deplorable.
And it is not, no matter the museum's pretentious explanations, ART.
