People are talking about the faux-pas of the week: Sarah Palin pardoning a Thanksgiving turkey, and then being unintentionally ironic by giving an interview about it smack dab in front of some guy beheading a series of turkeys.
It did, however, inspire Bruce Friedrich from PETA to publish the
Top 10 Reasons you should personally consider pardoning a turkey this Thanksgiving over at the Huffington post.
Word to the wise: Don't make your brain hurt by reading the comments, some of which come from the kind of cretins who find it tremendously amusing to joke about torturing animals. Trust me, you'll be glad you spared yourself the aggravation.
Instead focus on Friedrich's Top 10 list...which runs the gamut of very good reasons to go veg, from your health to the planet's health to the simple fact that you are participating in torture and cruelty when you eat meat.
I'm off to Tucson, AZ tomorrow to have Thanksgiving with my S.O.'s family. Our hosts are being very gracious and kind enough to make sure there will be vegan food for me. And when sending out the menu to everyone on the email thread, and no doubt solely because I was there on the thread, they felt compelled to note that they offered gratitude to the turkey they planned to serve for its life. So very Michael Pollan. And so totally meaningless to me. And the turkey.
I say pardon a turkey - that's the only way to go!
