The Week that Is: Days 506-511 (Y2/D140-145)
I've been a little bit of a no-show here for a few days mostly because I had literally nothing to write about. What does that mean? Well, starting Monday afternoon I was hit by some bug...either food poisoning or a virus or something, and I stopped eating. Or wanting to eat. For several days. It was not normal for me at all.
Last weekend was actually an active, eventful one.
On Saturday I went and saw the latest Cirque du Soleil touring show, Kooza, in downtown San Jose. I had made myself a quite healthy lunch out of the Vegan Planet Cookbook: Winter Squash and Adzuki Bean Saute. Quite simple, hearty, tasty. (I'm realizing as I write this that the leftovers are in a pyrex bowl in the fridge at work...I never got to them, and they're probably down for the count now.)
Cotton Candy at the circus probably wasn't awesome for my tummy, but who can resist? it's one of those few childhood treats tat is vegan, after all.
We then went out to Thai food, and I had the usual: Tofu Tod (little deep-fried tofu triangles) and a Tofu Curry, this time Mussaman.
Sunday I actually got out and walked...a lot. First I met a friend and walked the track for a good 45-60 minutes, then we walked over to the local farmer's market and back. I went home and ate leftover Thai food before the S.O. and i headed up to the SF Indie Film Festival.
We were going to see this amazing movie: Back in the 80s a trio of 12 year old boys decided to make Raider of the Lost Ark. Frame by frame. It took them EIGHT summers to complete it. Other than the biplane having a boat as stand-in...and having a dog play the monkey...they really did thinkgs you could not believe if you weren't seeing it with your own eyes. Two of the filmmakers were on-hand for a little Q&A. This was all filmed in betamax, BTW, so although it is now preserved on DVD the quality is degraded, and the sound is very bad. I know the film so well, though, that I didn't need to understand their audio.
Afterwards we walked some more, this time to one of my favorite veg*n places, Cha Ya Vegetarian Japanese. And we ate a feast!
So, on Monday, I had leftovers from this feast for lunch...avocado and shitake rolls and this Portabella Tofu Tempura appetizer they make.
After lunch I was working in my office with a colleague with the door closed, and it started to feel hotter and hotter. Didn't help that we were dealing with a somewhat stressful issue. And at one point I started to feel like I was going to be sick or faint or something. I actually went to lie down on the couch in our entry way. And from there it did not really improve until I went home. And from there I did not really eat much until last night.
On Tuesday I had a little applesauce in the morning and a bowl of cereal in the evening.
On Wednesday I had a slice of toast in the morning and a couple of mashed potatoes in the evening,
On Thursday I had some applesauce in the morning, and didn't eat again until dinner (which the S.O. picked up from Cheesecake Factory, and of which I ate very little.)
And the thing was: I had no interest in eating. I was not hungry. But neither did I get the way I usually get when I don't eat...shaky, unfocused, irritable. I was fine with not eating.
Meanwhile, I thought I had food poisoning, but I've now developed this crappy cough, so I'm not sure what that means.
BlogHer is launching this whole Letter to My Body campaign, and my body has decided to rebel just in time for it.
OK, enough whining. This morning, my body did not react well to having eaten more of a meal last night...if you get my drift...so I'm back to feeling it's totally OK to not eat.
This is definitely not like me.
