Perhaps a bit late in the game, but Stephanie from the Change.org Animal Rights blog inspired me to provide a few vegan shopping resources, after she published her own handy dandy list. Please read the comments on her post too, as there is some controversy over Alternative Outfitters and whether they use sweatshops. Luckily, Change.org has a slew of blogs, including one about fair trader, so later Stephanie is able to point us to a great fair trade resource for vegan shoes.
Some stores she didn't mention:
I have a recommendation with a caveat to make:
Matt & Nat makes the cutest, most affordable vegan handbags around, BUT I had a terrible customer service experience ordering from them last year before the holidays, and when I go to purchase another Matt & Nat bag I will be looking to buy it through a distributor. As I said, caveat emptor.
Another great resource is
Skin Deep, the cosmetics database that can tell you if there are dangerous ingredients or chemicals in your cosmetics or skin care products, plus if they've been tested on animals.
Finally, if you're like me...a veg*n who looooves marshmallows...you must know about
Sweet & Sara, the only veg*n marshmallow around.
I'm late to this party, but the holidays certainly the time I buy myself shoes and bags anyway, so hopefully this list will still come in handy.
