Day 586 (Y2/D221): A moveable feast
Last night I hosted my book club without hosting it. When the book club started...probably 3 years ago now, everyone lived around San Jose, but over the years we have had members move to SF, Oakland and Morgan Hill. Also, we have a couple of members who have a house full of kids (and yes, two kids can seem like a house full if you're trying to discuss the finer points of a book.) We've tried having book club at restaurants, and it's a bit hit or miss depending on the place.
Yet, everyone eventually wants to host, because the host gets to pick the next book.
So, the last couple of months we've tried something different...which is that one South Bay person opens their home, but one more remote person "hosts" by arranging for the food and libations.
This week I opened my home, but my Morgan Hill friend showed up with a cooler and 2 shopping bags and a rolling storage bin. She went all out, bringing not just food and beverages, but serve ware, utensils, you name it. I had to provide the wine opener, and that was about it.
Because the book was set in Spain she brought Spanish almonds (which I could eat) and Spanish cheeses (which I couldn't.) she also made two vegan salads, so I was a happy camper indeed.
