Day 33: Mindless Ordering
So Day 33 offered an example of how sometimes one forgets that being a vegan requires just that littlebit of extra vigilance. You can't just do your routine, even your vegetarian routine. (Sort of like the Tootsie Roll day a week or so again.)
Like last night when I went out to Thai food and without even thinking ordered a Thai Iced Coffee. Wha t I always order. (And a very yummy beverage.)
The moment it showed up at the table I looked at it and realized, in a true V8 moment, that that was a big old helping of condensed sweetened milke on top. D'oh! Luckily one of my dining companions wanted it and took it, but sheesh. I'm wondering how long it will be until veganism is as second nature to me as vegetarianism became?
Today I've headed off to Seattle for a conference. That's right...eating out and catering meals. Wish me luck!
Breakfast:
Black coffee
Tortilla
2 Trader Joe's Vegan Breakfast Patties
Organic Avocado
Lunch:
Organic Pineapple Juice
Organic Golden Potatoes, mashed with Soy Margaarine and Organic Avocado (Yum, I love avocado!)
Vegan Biscotti
Dinner (at House of Siam in downtown San Jose):
Yams with peanut sauce
Vegetarian Pad Thai, no egg
Red Curry Vegetables
So, yes, I was placing my eating habits in House of Siam's hands. I
hope they got that I was vegan and that those dishes were really vegan.
But as Romanicola pointed out yesterday...that trust is often mislaid.
