Day 113: I know they tried, but...
Yes, we vegans are a persnickety and difficult lot, always asking one more question about ingredients in our food. Always wanting this, but not that; those, but not these.
Sometimes caterers and restaurants have the best of intentions, but in the end they don't get it. Or they don't understand that they could make a vegan version of their interesting food pretty easily (you know, replace butter with olive oil, and you're done, basically.) So you end up getting the plainest food imaginable.
Thus it was yesterday:
Breakfast (catered at a meeting):
Bagel
Tofu "cream cheese" (I do have to say this is the first time I've ever
been at a catered event where they had tofu cream cheese...it was a
pleasant surprise!)
Coffee
Lunch (catered at same meeting):
The caterers had been prepared (so I thought) for my veganism, but the
offering was a pasta with cheese on top. Much as I tried to explain
that the same exact dish without the cheese on top would be perfect,
what I got was a bowl of plain penne pasta...with nothing on it
whatsoever.)
Plain Penne
Greens
2 slices of Potato (Hopefully in oil, but it's quite possible they were in butter.)
Luna Bar
Sparkling Grapefruit Juice
Dinner (Cibo):
Bread
Greens w/Vinaigrette
Steamed Veggies, then an additional helping of Spinach. (I tried to ask
for pasta with the vegetables, but this seemed beyond their
comprehension. Meanwhile another vegetarian at the tablke obviously had
a different conversation because she ended up with a bowl of plain
penne. To be fair, language barriers might have come into play for both
of us.)
Sorbet
Snack:
Pringles
