Day 108: My first walk down a meat aisle in a while!
Yesterday the S.O. and I checked out a wedding venue in Palo Alto (more on that later) and made a trip to Draeger's in Menlo afterwards. The S.O. used to live near downtown Menlo, so Draeger's is his food nirvana. Usually I get impatient spending too much time in a grocery store, but Draeger's truly is so stuffed to the gills with unusual items, that it can be a fun place to shop.
While there I decided that the S.O. should buy some turkey to sprinkle on the amazing geriatric cat's food to make sure she keeps eating properly...especially since I'm going on a trip, and she tends to get finicky and turn her nose up at food he feeds her while I'm gone. At first we headed toward the back of the store where the butcher section is. Typically when I shop I don't even walk down the aisle where the meats are. I started to walk down it, and I literally got freaked out by all of the big raw dead items in the case. I had to run past the meat and hide in the vegetable section. I'm not even kidding. The S.O. was laughing at me. Quite heartily. Turns out the sliced turkey is at the front in the deli section, which somehow contains items that are much more veiled and less obviously big dead animal parts.
Yes, I know having my S.O. ask for and buy the turkey is not really that different from me doing it myself, but that's what I do. And if any of you are vegan and have a cat that's almost 20 years old, despite having chronic kidney issues for almost 4 years I won't judge you if you do the same!
